Raul Jimenez included in Mexicos 26-man squad for World Cup in Qatar

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Raul Jimenez has been included in Mexico’s 26-man squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

The 31-year-old has not played for Wolves since their 0-0 draw against Bournemouth in August. He injured his groin during a pre-match warmup before his side’s Premier League encounter versus Southampton on September 3.

Jimenez has been hampered with injuries for the majority of the 2022-23 campaign and originally missed the start of the season for his club due to a medial collateral ligament injury in his knee.

The striker has played just four times in all competitions this season. He scored one goal during that period against Preston North End in the Carabao Cup.

Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez has also been included in the squad for Qatar and is seen as one of Mexico’s star players going into the World Cup.

Earlier in the summer transfer window, Chelsea were unsuccessful in their bid to sign the 25-year-old, who has continued to put in some impressive performances this season. He has made 19 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and assisting twice in that time.

Mexico begin their World Cup campaign against Poland on November 22, followed by matches against Argentina on November 26 and Saudi Arabia on November 30.
